Haris Patsios is a Professor in Smart Energy Systems at Newcastle University, School of Engineering, and director of Newcastle University’s Centre for Energy. He obtained his electrical engineering degree in 2005 from the University of Patras and his PhD degree in 2011 from the National Technical University of Athens.

He has significant experience in the design, modelling and control of electrical power systems including Energy Storage, Renewables and Power Electronics. His research involves the development of models, grid interfaces and control techniques for energy systems. He has been a Co-director for the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council’s £1m Supergen Storage Network+ (EP/S032622), and the £5m Center for Energy Systems Integration (EP/P001173/1). He has worked with industry on many occasions in this area leading on projects and initiatives such as the £900k Clean Tyne, Digitalised and Decarbonised Port Transition Roadmap for the Port of Tyne, the £2.4m Siemens Mindsphere Applications Centre for Batteries, and the £1.9m Customer-led Distribution System with Northern Powergrid.
