Dr Philip Sotiriades

Speaker Founder & CEO at Telematic Medical Applications

An experienced executive with a PhD and proven business success in the field of eHealth and telemedicine. My journey into the depths of telemedicine and e-health began at the University of Patras, where I completed my doctoral studies in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. The focus of my thesis was the design and implementation of a novel protocol that supported telematic groupware services. This early work, characterized by its innovative approach to complex teleworking and tele-education applications, set the stage for my future endeavors in the healthcare technology sector.

Upon completing my doctorate, I embarked on several significant projects with the Hellenic Telecommunication Organization – OTE. These projects, ranging from developing telemedicine services to enhancing telecommunication protocols, provided me with a robust framework for understanding and improving healthcare delivery through technology. My work helped facilitate the synchronization of medical and administrative data across different healthcare facilities, improving the efficiency and reliability of medical services in various Greek prefectures.

In 2007, driven by a passion to further harness technology to meet healthcare needs, I founded Telematic Medical Applications (TMA). My vision for TMA was to create a company that would not only lead in innovation but also set new standards in patient care through advanced telemedicine solutions. Since its inception, TMA has been a pioneer in integrating AI with telemedicine, developing systems that enhance patient engagement and empower healthcare professionals with real-time data and analytics.

Throughout my career, I have also dedicated time to teaching and mentoring the next generation of engineers and healthcare professionals. This commitment to education reflects my belief that continuous learning and knowledge sharing are crucial for fostering innovation and excellence in any field.

Looking ahead, my goal remains steadfast—to push the boundaries of what telemedicine can achieve, making healthcare more accessible and effective around the globe. Through TMA, I continue to advocate for technological solutions that address real-world healthcare challenges, ensuring that every advancement contributes to a more connected and healthier future.

EDUCATION

  • 18/11/1999 – Degree in Physics at the University of Patras
  • 21/02/2005 – PhD in Mechanical Engineering & Computer Science with thesis in telemedicine

THESIS
My idea was to exploit the new possibilities of computer science in the professional and educational environment of today, in order to offer a better quality of life and at the same time offer a new approach on Teleconferencing, Telecommuting, Telehealth, and Telemedicine, in order to stay active with the challenges we could face in the near future.
During my thesis period, I was able to carry out and deliver the following projects:

  • Unified platforms on tele-education, teleworking, telemedicine
  • 1/2000 – 12/2002 – ARKADIA platform supporting Tele-work capabilities
  • 1/2000 – 12/2001 Network of telemedicine platform (ISDN) for the following hospitals: Ioannina, Karditsa, Trikala, Dodecanese, Sismanogleio, Evangelismos, Samos, Kastelorizo (the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Kostis Stephanopoulos was present at the ceremony).
  • 1/2001 – 12/2002 – Creation of a high-speed network for telemedicine systems with mobile units
  • 1/2002 – 1/2004 – Telemedicine platform supporting through telemedicine systems the support of patients at a distance or within the hospital. Provide digital/Wi-Fi/satellite and mobile services for patient medical records, diagnostic/laboratory reports (microbiology tests, cardiograms, X-rays, MRI, scans, etc.).

SCIENTIFIC WORK
During my thesis and professional work, I contributed as follows:

  • Lectures in many universities on Computer Science and Telemedicine
  • Published articles in International Health/Medicine Journals
  • Papers published in International Journals of Medicine and Medicine
  • Participation in many studies and analyses
  • Reviewer of studies for International Journals of Health/Medicine
  • Author of technical analyses and manuals

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
During the period February 2001 – January 2007, I delivered the following projects:

  • Logistics Platform ERP – Mega Tron for ILIDA SA
  • Telemedicine Platform “FILIPPOS” connecting all military hospitals
  • European Union project “IREMMA” Telemedicine platform for asthma patients
  • Educational platform “DIGITAL HELLENIC UNIVERSITY”

January 2008 – Establishment of Telematic Medical Applications (TMA)
As Founder and CEO of TMA, through strategic planning, I created TMA GLOBAL in the NASA ecosystem, with extensive networking (with scientists at NASA, Silicon Valley, R&D Centers, Major Global Recognized Hospitals/Medical Centers, manufacturers and designers in the US – Europe, etc.). Scientific work, focus, and determination have been able to establish TMA among the leaders in eHealth and telemedicine. Major achievements as follows:

  • AH (Noah Ark of Health) – Telemedicine platform for shipping companies/navigation companies/yachts/drilling sites/etc. Provides a complete solution in the size of a “suitcase,” just like a small medical health centre ideal for those working/traveling at sea or in remote areas. It provides insurance whilst avoiding unnecessary costs to the shipping company and can generate insurance savings.
  • MedEvac – similar service as described above for the aviation industry
  • eHygeia – Telemedicine platform system that supports a patient’s complete digital record and medical support for doctors directly via teleconference with the patient
  • ePokratis – Platform that provides a complete system to hospitals/clinics/diagnostic centres/doctors/mobile units/prescriptions/patients/management/National Health System on digital Telemedicine & Telehealth solutions. This will eliminate unnecessary visits to emergency rooms, hospitals, doctors, diagnostic centers, ambulance needs, which will save patients and the National Health System money, while increasing revenue for doctors and reducing insurance costs.
  • Artificial Intelligence – In 2021 we introduced a new medical device that provides 5 vital medical indicators along with a psychological assessment.
