Despina is an economist and a passionate marketing and communications professional, with extensive experience and recognition in delivering innovative productions and organizing high profile events. The heart of Slide2Open beats with Despina Travlou (www.slide2open.net). Having organized more than 300 events, in partnership with the Financial Times and national media and communication firms (e.g. Naftemporiki, Boussias Communications), she has contributed in turning business relationships into lifetime learning experiences.
From strategy design and research, to content creation and event management her work has spread internationally across industries, including shipping, healthcare, energy, trade and agribusiness. She has worked with business executives, members of the academia, regional and national governments, representatives of institutional organizations, public entities and private corporations in Greece and abroad.
Despina is also heavily involved in several organizations and initiatives that align with her interests and expertise. She is the Founder and Secretary General of AI IA, a [501 (c)(3)] non-profit organization based in Silicon Valley that aims to promote artificial intelligence in a way that aligns with global values of democracy, freedom, and privacy (www.ai-action.org).
Additionally, she serves as the IEEE SA Standards Association Maritime Ambassador, a role within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE SA Standards Association) that focuses on building partnerships and collaboration between the IEEE SA Standards Association and the maritime industry. One of her main duties is to investigate and identify areas where the IEEE SA Standards Association can play a role in leveraging technology and innovation to the benefit of the maritime industry.
She is the author of six books and she was the editor of all scientific issues of the “E” magazine – Eleftherotypia newspaper for Physical Sciences. Furthermore, she co-founded and was the editor of Aithra Publications and Bookstore in Physics and Mathematics.
Despina holds a BA in Business Administration from the University of Piraeus and a postgraduate diploma in the History of Physical Sciences from the University of Edinburgh.
