Speaker Chief Executive Officer, Lookout Maritime
Martin has a passion for advancing sustainability, social and safety outcomes in the maritime industry to improve global prosperity without harm to people or the planet. This journey and passion continues through Lookout Maritime, a company he founded in April 2021 to support the industry with a challenging transition to a low carbon economy, while increasingly adopting and implementing more sustainable business practices.
He brings more than 25 years of practical experience, a great network and clear understanding of the shipping landscape in particular the relationship between the technical, regulatory, political, commercial and sustainability drivers of the various stakeholders in the maritime supply chain.
In October 2021 Martin was appointed as the strategic lead for carbon at the Baltic Exchange, and a member of the Baltic Exchange Council focused on emissions. Lookout Maritime partners with industry leading companies like Anglo-Eastern who are passionate about creating a positive impact on sustainability in order to better serve the maritime community.
As CEO of RightShip, Martin led the digital transformation of products and services to deliver a completely new data platform, algorithm and operational safety benchmark called the “safety score” to replace Qi. The “safety score” is a clear traffic light system and benchmark on safety and operational performance in the freight market serving charterers, ship owners, ports and terminals.
Prior to this Martin ran DNV’s customer engagement and consulting business across West Europe and Africa focused on emission reduction and innovation projects. Martin has been directly involved in the implementation of alternative fuels for the marine industry for over 15 years, including the important practical considerations, often overlooked such as key stakeholder acceptance, safety, training and wider impacts.
He holds a master’s degree in engineering and naval architecture, is a graduate of IMD executive business school and is a qualified marine auditor and ship surveyor.
Martin is a sought-after panellist, advisor and industry commentator and has been nominated as one of the top 100 influential persons in the global maritime industry by Lloyds List.
