Dr George K. Vaggelas is Associate Professor at the Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport – University of the Aegean. His research interests are focusing on Shipping management and strategy as well as port management, port policy and strategy.
He served as an advisor to the President and CEO of Thessaloniki Port Authority (ThPA) SA. (2010-2014) and as a member of the Greek Regulatory Authority for Ports (2014-2016). During 2016-2020 he was partner and Managing Director of Ports & Shipping (P&S) Advisory, an innovative company aiming at delivering consultancy services of high quality in the port and shipping industries.
He has been engaged in contract and academic research as well as consultancy, having completed several port and shipping related projects in Greece and abroad examining port reorganization, management, reform and privatization, shipping clusters, shipping policy etc.
He has (co-) authored several studies examining seaport economics, management and policy, shipping policy and management published in international scientific journals and presented at international conferences.
He holds a BSc (Shipping & Enterpreneurship), an MSc in Shipping Trade and Transport (STT), and a PhD (2008) in port economics, management and policy. George is a member of PortEconomics.eu, a web-based initiative aiming to advance knowledge exchange on seaport studies.
